Prenatal Chiropractic

Beyond 36 weeks many mothers are wanting to prepare their bodies for labor and delivery. So at this point during pregnancy we really want to make sure that the pelvis and spine are balanced and moving well. This can help with having a more straightforward and comfortable labor and delivery

Some research has also shown a reduction in labor time for those women who had received chiropractic care throughout their pregnancy.

Besides preparing the body for labor and delivery, we also can provide moms with relief from various aches and pains she may be experiencing: low back pain, neck pain, and headaches.

Prenatal Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a safe and effective treatment option for issues arising at any time during pregnancy. Weekly acupuncture starting at week 36 is a treatment plan we would recommend to all expectant mothers, and these are the reasons why.

During the last 4 weeks of pregnancy there are a number of changes occurring in a women’s body, especially in her pelvic region as shifting and expansion make room for the growing baby. Acupuncture can help with muscle aches and pains as these shifts take place. It will reduce inflammation in the muscles, decrease pain levels and encourage the muscles and tendons to relax in order accommodate these changes.

Acupuncture treatments promote emotional wellbeing. It reduces levels of stress hormones circulating in your blood, which is important for the expectant mother and the baby. This will help you feel calm and balanced, reduce anxiety, and promotes normal sleep cycles.

Regular acupuncture treatments leading up to labour has been shown to reduce labour time and also reduce the need for medical intervention such as inductions and c-sections. We will work with your body to support the changes that naturally take place during this time such as the release of oxytocin, thus promoting the softening of your cervices and the contraction of the smooth muscles in your uterus.

Of course any unique concerns that you have will be discussed during your treatment as well. Acupuncture treats a wide range of conditions such as breech babies, overdue babies, pregnancy hypertension, nausea, headaches, and acid reflux to name a few.
