Studies show that acupuncture is a useful tool for improving pregnancy rate after Artifical Reproductive Technology (ART)
How does Acupuncture Work
Relaxing the patient with acupuncture may reduce the biological stress response, thereby increasing blood flow to the uterus which in turn helps to facilitate the transfer and implantation. HIHF has 3 treatment options to help you to increase your chances of success.
In 2002, a landmark German study that combined acupuncture with IVF, was published in the medical journal, Fertility and Sterility. This study garnered the attention of both acupuncturists and allopathic doctors.
Clinical pregnancies were documented in 34 of 80 patients (42.5%) in the acupuncture group, whereas pregnancy rate was only 26.3% (21 out of 80 patients) in the control group. The conclusion from this study-Acupuncture seems to be a useful tool for improving pregnancy rate after ART (assisted reproductive technology) See the abstract published in PubMed.
Pre and Post IVF/IUI Acupuncture Treatments
The day of your transfer, have an Acupuncture treatment done before and after your procedure. We use specific Acupuncture protocols, as well (if required), incorporate guided meditation visualizations during your sessions.
In the post transfer treatment a small wait time may occur as we will do our best to align with the Regional Fertility Clinic’s schedule. Regardless of the timing, you will receive a specialized treatment designed to increase your chances of success.
IVF/IUI Prep Program
Whether you are 3 months or 2 weeks away from your IVF/IUI transfer, we will support you throughout the process. We understand the physical, mental and emotional stress ART (assisted reproductive technique) procedures bring. We can just work with Acupuncture alone to increase blood and circulation to your uterus and to help balance your hormones and mitigate the side effects of Clomid and other drugs. If you want, we may also integrate the relaxing benefits of Massage/ Reiki/ Craniosacral treatments during key times during the ART process. We may also suggest Fertility Yoga into the mix to teach you some meditative/calming techniques you can do at home/work. If you are really keen, then we can also include a Fertility Nutrition consult too.
The goal is to prepare you physically and emotionally for the transfer.
Post IVF/IUI Program
Statistically, 25% of all pregnancies will end in miscarriage due to maternal age and health, genetic defects and other organic reasons. IVF pregnancies may have a lower rate of miscarriage due to the selection process which is very positive news. However, due to maternal age this rate may increase.
OK, so now that you have had the procedure what are ways you can not only create a hospitable environment for the transfer but also calm your mind and body? We can help! We work with you to determine what the potential risks are and incorporate the corresponding therapy. Some women choose to work with us for 2 weeks post transfer OR just a few days. We usually will recommend treatment 7-9 days post transfer as a follow up.
